Perfectly Easy Hard Boiled Eggs

These perfectly easy hard boiled eggs are exactly that: easy and perfect!! We added boiled eggs to our weekly meal prep a couple years ago when my husband and I started making cobb salads for lunch every day. We found that having all of our ingredients prepared in advance for the coming week made healthy eating so much more doable! Thus, meal prep Sunday became a family tradition! πŸ™‚

If you’ve ever made hard boiled eggs, you probably know that timing is everything! Boil too long, you’ll have tough and discolored eggs. Boil too short, you’ll have soft yolks not fully cooked.

We make a dozen hard boiled eggs at the start of each week, while prepping our other salad and dinner ingredients. Our method of perfectly easy hard boiled eggs is very hands-off and perfect for multitasking in the kitchen! I usually start food prep Sunday’s using these steps to cook eggs, proceeding to prep other ingredients while waiting for the water to boil.

  • Fresh Eggs
  • Water

  • Select saucepan or pot with fitted lid.
  • Place fresh eggs gently in pot (I've cracked a few when I'm hurrying!) and cover with room temp water until eggs are totally covered by water and not sticking up above the water line.
  • Place pot on cold stove burner and turn heat to High heat for 5-10 minutes, or until water comes to a rolling boil.
  • Immediately after boiling temperature is reached, turn heat down to Lowest setting and cover pot with lid. Allow pot to sit, covered with lid, for 15 minutes. Do not open lid as this will release heat and steam.
  • After 15 minutes on Low heat, turn off heat. Allow pot to sit, covered, for 15 more minutes in order to allow gradual cooling.
  • Using tongs, carefully remove boiled eggs from pot and place on a cooling rack or cloth to cool until they reach room temperature. (15-30 minutes depending on room temperature)
  • After your boiled eggs have reached room temperature, place in an airtight container in the refrigerator. Voila!

The gradual cooling process seems to help our boiled eggs peel easier! So set your timer for those 15 minute segments to get fabulous easy to peel boiled eggs!
